A year in reflection.

Written by FibreTrace®

We look back on the year that was 2021 to reflect on our achievements and the future of transparency for the global textile and fashion industry.

Transparency and traceability continue to make headlines across global media as consumers, industry bodies and governments place increasing pressure on brands and retailers to be more truthful about how and where our products are made.

2021 for FibreTrace® was a year of groundbreaking firsts to accelerate traceable solutions and bring urgency to the fact that meaningful change starts with meaningful partnerships rooted in transparency across our supply chain.

In our ongoing journey towards complete supply chain transparency, we hope to keep ourselves accountable towards our goals and remain honest about our progress.

Here are some of the highlights from the last 12 months.

2021 in a nutshell.

Fibre Impact Module

In February of 2021, we launched the Fibre Impact Module (or more fondly referred to as the FIM).

The next evolution for FibreTrace®, the FIM answered unprecedented questions for the industry to access primary impact data at the raw materials level.

Capturing primary farm impact data - including water use, energy consumption, chemical use and soil carbon content - users of the FIM can verify and trace their GHG emissions in raw materials for the very first time.

Global launch with Reformation

The first US traceable collection made from climate positive cotton! Our partnership with Reformation to create our first global collection of traceable denim holds a very special place in our hearts.

Since its establishment in 2009, Reformation has been committed to placing sustainability at the forefront of their company's ethos and continue to make improvements for their people, planet and process.

Our partnership with Reformation allowed us to push the fashion industry towards a better, more transparent shared future.

Continued traceability with Nobody Denim

Our ongoing partnership with Nobody Denim continues to celebrate Australian-made clothing that is both fully traceable and carbon positive. We are so honoured to continue our journey with Nobody to showcase the benefits of traceability for the entire fashion and textile industry.

Tracing recycled fibres with Belda Lloréns and ECOLIFE

We are determined to enable transparency and traceability for a circular economy. Our partnership with Belda Llorens and ECOLIFE, Impetus and Good Earth Cotton® enabled FibreTrace® to drive carbon positive and circular solutions for the global industry - backed by informed data and traceability.

Traceable and verified wool with British Wool and Harris Tweed Hebrides

In collaboration with Harris Tweed Hebrides and British Wool, we launched authenticated, verified and traceable wool to connect British wool growers to the end consumer.

The collaboration not only demonstrated the true proactivity and passion of the UK luxury community to put local wool suppliers at the forefront of sustainability but to push traceability across all natural fibres.

Taking the next step with Higg

We’re collaborating with Higg in an industry driven traceability partner program to provide a clearer future for fashion. Our partnership with Higg is the natural next step for our Fibre Impact Module (FIM) in combining traceability with primary impact data, social compliance reporting and facility reporting to facilitate smarter and more sustainability choices at every point of the supply chain.

Traceability Powered by 7 For All Mankind

In September, we launched our first capsule denim collection with 7 For All Mankind. Our partnership with 7 For All Mankind is a continued example of progress within the denim industry to turn towards more responsible manufacturing practices through transparency.

Born in Los Angeles, California, 7 For All Mankind was the first company to bring premium denim to scale, putting L.A. on the map as the fashion authority of the west coast staple. Today, 7 For All Mankind is an international brand with over 100 retail locations in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Africa’s first fully traceable cotton supply chain

A groundbreaking achievement not only for FibreTrace® but the African textile and cotton sector. We partnered with ARISE IIP, a pan-African developer and operator of world-class industrial parks, to introduce a spinner-to-garment traceability for its highly anticipated Republic of Benin spinning facilities at the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) in early 2022.

GOTS Certification

Late last year we got the good news that our traceability pigments now have GOTS certification. Whilst we always had confidence in the safety, performance and durability of our pigments, it is a privilege to be able to share this confidence with our brands and partners.

So, what’s next?

We keep going! 2022 for FibreTrace will be focused on expanding and refining our technology to ensure that we can provide trusted and authentic traceability for the entire fashion and textile industry.
