In a first-of-its-kind partnership for Pakistan, ICI Pakistan Limited has partnered with advanced traceability technology FIBRETRACE®, to trace their 100% Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre brand, Terylene Clean.
Salvaged from post-consumer PET waste, Terylene Clean will embed FIBRETRACE®’s patented tracer technology at the raw material stage, to test and verify the presence of rPET fibres at every step of the value chain.
Transparency continues to be a “license to operate” for any brand wishing to make sustainability claims around their fibres. In light of recent controversy that exposed two-thirds of recycled polyester textiles products as fraudulent, Terylene Clean is determined to set a precedent for verified transparency across the rPET fibre industry.
“ICI Pakistan Limited has partnered with FibreTrace to bring the much needed transparency in RPET fibre industry. With Terylene Clean, you can now trace sustainability from source to store to ensure brands are getting what they paid for,” said Nauman Shahid Afzal, Vice President of Polyester Business at ICI Pakistan Limited.
Amongst the highest-quality rPET fibres globally, Terylene Clean provides circular solutions that are GRS, OEKO-TEX and Ecoflower certified for the world’s leading sustainable textile brands.
To date, Terylene Clean has recycled more than 250 million PET bottles and has saved carbon emissions equivalent to planting more than 200,000 trees. By May 2022, they will have an additional production capacity, bringing the total recycled PET bottles to 1.2 Billion every year.
ICI Pakistan Limited and FIBRETRACE® formalised the partnership on the 24th of February 2022 in a signing ceremony, held at the ICI Polyester Manufacturing site located in Sheikhupura, Pakistan. The session brought together all relevant stakeholders, including senior management from FibreTrace®, ICI Pakistan Limited and WWF Pakistan, working to establish an eco-system that promotes traceable rPET from Pakistan.
