We had the pleasure of chatting with Alexandra Dash, Founder of Shapes in the Sand. Alexandra spoke about her personal values, and how her brand’s ethics all relate back to traceability and transparency.

(FibreTrace) What do you love the most about the way your brand operates in terms of transparency?

(Alexandra)Knowing that Shapes in the Sand's practices reflect my personal values. The label was built on solid foundations to support three key areas: circularity, conservation and ethical manufacturing. Keeping all operations of the business locally has also enabled me to connect with like-minded creatives and makers who have helped build a healthy network. These people have become an integral part of Shapes in the Sand.

(FibreTrace) How have your sustainability ethics contributed to your success as a brand?

(Alexandra) By having strong values towards the treatment of others including our planet has helped me to build a strong sustainable business. I've stayed true to my values and I question every step involved within the business, from the sourcing right through to the distribution of collections.

(FibreTrace) What would be the most important piece of advice you could give to other brands wanting to be more sustainable?

(Alexandra) Understand your supply chain properly and implement minimal waste strategies into your whole business model.

(FibreTrace) In your opinion, what is the importance of partnering with organisations such as WIRES Wildlife Rescue?

(Alexandra) Helping to look after our natural environment is Shapes in the Sand's driving force. Nature is an important part of my life on a personal level, therefore looking after it naturally became part of SITS. It's also a way to help raise awareness for areas of concern that we believe need our attention and at the same time giving back and supporting a healthy planet.
